Elekta VMAT offers patient's dramatically shorter treatment times than the current intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) available at other cancer centers - as fast as 2 minutes. Faster treatments improve patient comfort by reducing the time spent on the treatment table.
Treatment planning for Elekta VMAT follows a similar approach to planning for conventional IMRT. But only Elekta VMAT can deliver treatment using a single arc, multiple arcs, partial arcs, or a combination.
Single arc treatments are well suited to tumor sites such as the prostate, where opportunity exists to reduce unwanted dose to surrounding healthy tissues and adjacent critical structures.
